WOW Words This week’s WOW words were good, there, friend, made & from. Our chunk was –ade. You’ve probably noticed that the words are a bit more challenging now. Please help your child practice at home if you notice him/her having difficulty. Thanks.
Writing We learned about writing leads this week. Leads make draw the reader in and make the reader want to read more of the book. We practiced writing leads with the how-to book we wrote together: How to Make a Snow Angel. I was impressed with how well each child did! The children also chose their topic for their how-to story, which we will begin writing next week.
Reading We continued to infer using comics, as well the story Good Night, Gorilla. It was wonderful to listen to the children’s inferences during the Good Night, Gorilla lesson. They really pay attention to details!
Math We covered a variety of material this week during math. On Monday we continued to practice ‘What’s My Rule’ problems. On Wednesday we learned about the quarter. On Thursday first graders learned the difference between analog and digital clocks. We learned that the numbers on the clock not only represent the hour, but they show 5 minute intervals.
Social Studies We have almost completed our family history projects. They should be coming home next week. Thanks for sending in the pictures and descriptions of clothes, toys and appliances!
